This bill amends the New York State insurance law to modify how fire insurance premium taxes are distributed. Specifically, the bill changes the percentage of tax revenues allocated to firefighter organizations. Previously, 10% of remaining monies from fire insurance premiums were paid to the Firemen's Association of the State of New York for supporting their home in Hudson, New York. The new bill reduces this allocation to 9% and introduces a new allocation of 1% to be paid to the New York State Professional Firefighters Association. This 1% will be used to promote, support, and maintain the well-being of paid professional firefighters employed in the state. The language also updates gender-neutral terminology, changing "him" to "them" and updating terminology from "firemen's" to "firefighters'". The bill will take effect immediately and apply to monies received by the superintendent of financial services on or after April 1, 2026, ensuring a future implementation of these changes in tax distribution.
