This bill amends South Carolina law concerning sunscreen devices (window tinting) on motor vehicles by adding an exemption for law enforcement vehicles. Currently, the law allows exceptions for vehicles with medical exemptions (where a physician or optometrist certifies a physical condition requiring special window tinting) and now expands the exemption to include law enforcement vehicles regularly used to transport canine units trained for law enforcement purposes. Under the existing law, medical exemptions require a signed physician's affidavit kept in the vehicle that must be updated every two years and shown to law enforcement officers upon request. The new provision specifically creates a blanket exception for law enforcement vehicles transporting trained canines, allowing them to have window tinting that might otherwise violate state regulations. The bill will take effect immediately upon the Governor's approval.
