This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to establish a new special license plate designation for residents who have been awarded the Air Medal by the United States Armed Forces. Starting in the 2027 registration year, the Secretary of State may issue these special Air Medal license plates to eligible residents, which can be affixed to passenger vehicles, motorcycles, autocycles, and certain motor vehicles weighing up to 8,000 pounds. The plates will specifically display the Air Medal, with the overall design and color at the discretion of the Secretary of State. Applicants must provide appropriate documentation proving their Air Medal award, and the Secretary may allow these plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates. The plates will follow the multi-year registration procedure established in the Vehicle Code and are not required to include the "Land of Lincoln" designation. The Secretary of State will determine the specific eligibility requirements and can approve accompanying stickers or decals for these special plates.
