AI Summary

This bill establishes the Georgia CHIPS and Advanced Technology Commission, a new body focused on promoting semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing in the state. The commission will be comprised of nine members, including three appointed by the Governor, two by the Senate President, two by the House Speaker, the University System of Georgia chancellor, and the Technical College System commissioner. The commission's key purposes include creating a collaborative forum for semiconductor industry stakeholders, developing strategic plans for semiconductor innovation, attracting public and private investment, expanding workforce training opportunities, maintaining Georgia's leadership in semiconductor technologies, and encouraging state and local support for the semiconductor industry. Members will be prioritized based on their experience in manufacturing, design, industrial development, and scientific research. The commission will be administratively housed within the Georgia Department of Economic Development and is set to be automatically abolished on June 30, 2028. Additionally, the bill repeals the existing Georgia CHIPS and Advanced Technology Consortium, effectively replacing it with this new commission. The act will become effective upon the Governor's approval or when it becomes law without approval.
