This bill requires the Department of Health Care Access and Information to conduct a comprehensive assessment of physicians' and surgeons' education, training, and practices related to menopause. Specifically, the department will work with medical boards and higher education entities to evaluate physicians' training in menopause diagnosis and management, and analyze practice trends across different specialties, regions, demographics, and medical settings. By January 1, 2027, the department must submit a report to the Legislature identifying gaps in medical education and training regarding menopause, and recommend state policies to improve education and health outcomes for people experiencing menopause. Additionally, the Medical Board of California and the Osteopathic Medical Board of California will develop and administer anonymous surveys during the license renewal process to assess physicians' menopause-related training. Importantly, the boards cannot deny license renewal solely because a physician did not complete the survey. This bill aims to address potential knowledge and training gaps in menopause care among medical professionals.
