This bill repeals the Charles County Gaming Permit Review Board and transfers its responsibilities to the Charles County Attorney. Currently, the board consisted of seven members from various backgrounds, including law enforcement, a fundraising organization, finance experts, and members of the general public. Under the new legislation, the County Attorney will now handle all duties previously assigned to the board, such as reviewing gaming permit applications, recommending approval or denial of permits, maintaining records of gaming events, and providing recommendations on gaming regulations. The bill eliminates the board's formal structure, including its membership requirements, term lengths, and selection process. Instead, the County Commissioners will now directly delegate gaming-related powers and duties to the County Attorney, who will be responsible for tasks like reviewing applications, approving lessors of gaming devices, and maintaining records of gaming events. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2025, and all subsequent sections of the law will be renumbered accordingly to reflect the board's elimination.
