This resolution designates October 13, 2025, as "Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania, drawing attention to the serious impact of metastatic breast cancer (MBC), which occurs when breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body such as bones, lungs, liver, and brain. The resolution highlights critical statistics, including that more than one in eight women and one in 833 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and an estimated 42,250 Americans will die from breast cancer in 2025, with 98% of those deaths due to metastatic breast cancer. It specifically recognizes the national organization METAvivor Research and Support, which aims to increase breast cancer research funding for stage IV patients from under 5% to 30%, and supports the global #LightUpMBC campaign that will illuminate 115 landmarks worldwide in teal, pink, and green to represent the daily number of lives lost to metastatic breast cancer. The resolution also acknowledges that the traditional pink ribbon does not fully represent the experience of stage IV breast cancer patients and seeks to raise awareness about this critical health issue.
