AI Summary

This bill modifies the composition and operation of the Cook County Sheriff's Merit Board by reducing the board membership from a range of 3-7 members to a fixed 3 members, all appointed by the Sheriff with approval from three-fifths of the county board. The bill eliminates previous provisions about staggered terms and removes language about hearing officers. The new provisions specify that board members will serve 6-year terms beginning on the third Monday in March of their appointment year, with the option for non-staggered terms. The bill also changes the certification process for deputy sheriffs and corrections employees, allowing the Sheriff more discretion in the application process by permitting certification based on successful completion of the Sheriff's application process, which may include mental, physical, psychiatric, and other examinations. Additionally, the bill removes previous detailed requirements about applicant age, citizenship, and qualifications, giving the Sheriff more flexibility in hiring and appointment procedures. The changes aim to streamline the Sheriff's Merit Board operations and provide greater administrative autonomy to the Sheriff's office in staffing and personnel decisions.
