This bill requires the President and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to carefully review the annual Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on potential government waste, fragmentation, and duplication when preparing the federal budget. Specifically, the bill amends Title 31 of the United States Code to mandate that when developing the annual budget submission to Congress, the President and OMB must consider the most recent GAO report that identifies opportunities to reduce inefficiencies and achieve financial savings across government agencies. Furthermore, on the same day the budget is submitted to Congress, the OMB Director must also submit a separate report detailing their findings and responses to the GAO report's recommendations. The goal of this legislation is to promote more efficient use of taxpayer dollars by requiring high-level executive branch officials to systematically examine and address potential areas of waste and redundancy in government spending.
