This bill amends the Unified Code of Corrections to modify eligibility requirements for electronic monitoring or home detention programs for certain felony offenders. Specifically, the bill expands the period during which individuals serving sentences for Class X or Class 1 felonies (excluding specific sexual offenses) can be placed in electronic monitoring or home detention programs from 12 to 18 months before the end of their incarceration. The age requirement for eligibility is also lowered from 55 to 50 years old. To qualify, the person must be serving a determinate sentence, have completed at least 25% of their prison term, and receive approval from the Prisoner Review Board or Department of Juvenile Justice. This change aims to provide more opportunities for older, non-sexually violent felony offenders to serve the end of their sentences under electronic monitoring or home detention, potentially reducing prison populations and offering alternative supervision methods for aging inmates.
