This resolution honors the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 481 for their 62-year tradition of illuminating Monument Circle in Indianapolis during the holiday season. Since 1962, IBEW volunteers have been transforming the 246-foot-tall Soldiers and Sailors Monument into the "world's largest Christmas tree" by hanging 4,784 multi-colored light bulbs across 52 garland strands. Every year, over 300 volunteers spend approximately six hours installing the "Circle of Lights" the day after Thanksgiving, and another 200 volunteers take down the display in January. What began as a unique lighting display has become a beloved annual tradition that draws over 100,000 people and signals the start of the holiday season in Indianapolis. The resolution specifically commends IBEW Local 481 for their selfless dedication and commitment to bringing holiday cheer to the community, and directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit copies of the resolution to Senator Koch.
