This bill appropriates $800,000 from the State General Fund to Marshall County to help cover the costs of planning, engineering, and environmental needs for the Byhalia Railroad Bridge Project for fiscal year 2026. The project involves constructing a multi-component transportation infrastructure improvement, including a bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad and Old Highway 78, a bridge over Byhalia Creek, approximately 1.5 miles of new two-lane road connecting Old Highway 78 to Bubba Taylor Road, improvements to the existing Bubba Taylor Roadway leading to Mississippi Highway 309, and a gravity sewer line with a lift station to improve drainage in the area west of Byhalia Creek near Byhalia High School. The state treasurer will release the funds through warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer upon proper requisition, and the appropriation will become effective on July 1, 2025.
