This resolution recognizes February 6, 2025, as Keep Georgia Beautiful Day at the state capitol, honoring the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, which was established in 1978 by Governor George Busbee. The foundation manages a network of over 70 local Keep America Beautiful Affiliates that reach more than 80 percent of Georgia's population through environmental programs focused on litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling, and community beautification. These programs have achieved significant results, including reducing litter by 75 percent over 15 years, recycling over 6 million Christmas trees, and providing 77 mini-grants totaling $300,000 to local communities. The foundation engages an average of 99,000 volunteers annually, representing an estimated $24.7 million in value to taxpayers, and reportedly generates $170.35 in statewide benefits for every $1 invested by the state government. The resolution not only designates a specific day of recognition but also directs the Secretary of the Senate to distribute copies of the resolution to the public and press.
