This bill aims to provide more detailed and transparent wage information for classified employees in public schools and community colleges, beginning with the 2026-27 school year. Under the new requirements, public school employers and community college districts must provide employees with comprehensive, itemized wage statements that include detailed information such as gross wages, total hours worked (with some exceptions), all deductions, net wages, pay period dates, employee identification (using only last four digits of social security number), employer name and address, hourly rates, and hours worked at each rate. These statements can be provided as a detachable check stub, a printed statement with direct deposit, or a digital statement through a secure employee portal. Employers must keep records of these statements for at least three years and must allow current and former employees to inspect or request copies of their employment records within 21 calendar days of a request. The bill exempts certain employees from some reporting requirements, such as those with monthly or yearly salaries or those in specific exempt job categories. The legislative intent is to ensure classified public school and community college employees receive the same level of paycheck information typically guaranteed to private sector workers.
