This bill amends the Illinois Pension Code to modify how additional employer contributions are calculated for certain salary increases for teachers in downstate Illinois. Specifically, starting July 1, 2025, school districts will be exempt from making these additional contributions for salary increases that result from overload work, such as summer school, provided the district certifies to the pension System (TRS, or Teacher's Retirement System) that the overload work is solely for classroom instruction beyond a full-time teacher's standard load and that the salary increase is no more than the teacher's regular rate of pay for that instruction. This change aims to provide relief to school districts by excluding certain types of additional compensation from the calculation of extra pension contributions.
