This bill amends the New York State Finance Law to prohibit state agencies from purchasing any products manufactured using child labor, both domestically and internationally. Specifically, the bill requires the Commissioner of General Services to create a comprehensive list of products known to be manufactured using child labor, including those produced in other countries that would violate New York's labor laws if made within the state. Once this list is compiled, state agencies will be prohibited from entering into procurement contracts for any products identified as being manufactured wholly or partially through child labor. The goal of the legislation is to prevent state funds from supporting industries that exploit child workers by creating a mechanism to identify and exclude such products from government purchasing. The bill will go into effect 90 days after it becomes law, giving state agencies time to review their supply chains and adjust procurement practices accordingly.
