This bill exempts certain physician offices and health care facilities from obtaining multiple permits when administering anesthesia or sedation to dental patients. Currently, a physician who is also licensed as a dentist must obtain two separate permits to administer general anesthesia, conscious sedation, or deep sedation. The bill eliminates this redundancy by creating an exemption for physician offices that only administer anesthesia or sedation to dental patients, provided the physician: (1) is also licensed to practice dentistry, (2) holds a permit from the Board of Dental Examiners to administer various levels of sedation to dental patients, and (3) administers anesthesia or sedation only within the scope of that dental permit. Specifically, the bill modifies existing laws to allow such physicians to administer general anesthesia, conscious sedation, or deep sedation without obtaining an additional permit from the Division of Public and Behavioral Health. This change simplifies the permitting process for dual-licensed physicians and reduces administrative burden while maintaining patient safety through existing dental sedation permit requirements.
