This bill amends the School Code to establish a State Instructional Technology Advisory Board focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The board will consist of 15 members, including educators, administrators, school board representatives, and AI experts, who will serve two-year terms. The State Board of Education must develop comprehensive standards for AI technologies in schools, addressing safety, transparency, data privacy, and educational quality. By December 31, 2025, and annually thereafter, the board must identify and evaluate commonly used AI tools in schools, publishing a list of evaluated technologies that serves as an informational resource for districts. The bill also requires the development of guidance for school districts and educators on AI use, covering topics such as basic AI concepts, implementation strategies, bias and privacy considerations, best practices for technology selection, student AI literacy, and ensuring technology accessibility. School districts will be required to include information about AI use in their annual technology reports to the State Board of Education. The guidance will be provided to all school districts and charter schools, accompanied by professional development opportunities to help educators effectively understand and implement AI technologies. The bill aims to proactively manage the integration of AI in educational settings while maintaining educational quality and ethical considerations.
