This bill amends the Illinois Pension Code to allow individuals who provided contractual constituent services to a member of the General Assembly in their district to establish creditable service for up to 8 years of those contractual services. To do so, an applicant must make the required contributions to the State Employees' Retirement System (SERS) and apply within one year after the effective date of the amendatory Act. Previously, a similar provision existed for district office workers, but this bill extends the opportunity to those specifically providing constituent services. The bill modifies Section 14-104 of the Illinois Pension Code, which outlines various circumstances under which employees can purchase additional service credits in their pension system. The change provides a time-limited opportunity for these contract workers to retroactively gain pension service credit by paying the necessary contributions, which will be calculated based on a full-time salary equivalent determined by the retirement system.
