This resolution mourns the death of James Bottomley "Jim" Bleyer, a distinguished lawyer who passed away on January 6, 2025, after a remarkable 70-year legal career. Born in 1928, Bleyer graduated from Carterville High School, served in the U.S. Army after World War II, and earned degrees from Southern Illinois University and Notre Dame Law School, where he was awarded the prestigious Hoynes Prize. Throughout his legal career, he was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, formed a family law firm with relatives, and served on the Illinois Supreme Court's Character and Fitness Committee. Bleyer received the Illinois State Bar Association Laureate Award, was active in his community through St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and was a passionate University of Notre Dame sports fan.
