Bill Summary

As enacted, generally increases from 12 to 14, the age that a person must be to lawfully operate a personal watercraft upon the waters of Tennessee without being under the direct supervision of an adult, except that persons 12 and 13 may continue to operate a personal watercraft upon the waters of Tennessee without being under the direct supervision of an adult on Monday through Friday, excepting legal holidays. - Amends TCA Title 69, Chapter 9.

AI Summary

This bill amends Tennessee law regarding the operation of personal watercraft, which are motorized water vehicles like jet skis. Specifically, it raises the minimum age for operating a personal watercraft without adult supervision from 12 to 14 years old. However, it creates an exception allowing 12 and 13-year-olds to operate these watercraft without direct adult supervision on weekdays, excluding legal holidays, while still requiring adult supervision at all other times. The bill also clarifies that "direct supervision" means an adult is close enough to the operator to take immediate control of the watercraft.
