This bill amends the Illinois Election Code to modify how election precincts are organized in counties under township organization. Specifically, the bill allows election authorities to combine contiguous townships into a single election precinct under certain conditions, such as if the townships have been combined in the past two general elections, have no more than 1,800 registered voters combined, have no more than 500 registered voters in a single precinct, or if the majority of township trustees from both townships vote to combine and inform the election authority. The election authority must consider voter convenience and election integrity when making these decisions. This change provides more flexibility in precinct organization while maintaining some constraints to ensure efficient and accessible voting. Previously, each township was required to constitute at least one election precinct, but this bill removes that strict requirement and allows for more adaptive precinct boundaries in townships.
