This bill requires the Maryland Medical Assistance Program, managed care organizations (MCOs), insurers, nonprofit health service plans, and health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to provide comprehensive anesthesia coverage for medical procedures starting January 1, 2026. Specifically, if a licensed medical professional orders anesthesia for a procedure, these healthcare entities must provide coverage for the entire duration of the procedure and for medical care related to anesthesia that is provided immediately before and after the procedure. The bill prohibits these organizations from establishing, implementing, or enforcing any policies or practices that place time limitations on anesthesia delivery.
