This bill amends Pennsylvania's vehicle licensing laws to allow individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to have their diagnosis voluntarily noted on their driver's license or identification card. To obtain this notation, the individual must provide a sworn statement from a licensed medical professional in Pennsylvania verifying their ASD diagnosis. Parents or guardians can also request this notation for individuals under 18 years old or those under guardianship, following the same verification process. By requesting the notation, the individual or their guardian consents to the department making the diagnosis public on their identification document. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is required to develop regulations to implement this new provision. The bill will go into effect 60 days after its enactment, providing time for PennDOT to establish the necessary procedures for adding the ASD designation to driver's licenses and identification cards.
