This bill directs the New York State Commissioner of Labor, in consultation with the Commissioner of Mental Health, to create and distribute workplace materials about mental health and wellness. These materials will aim to reduce mental health stigma, provide information about mental disorders and treatment, and highlight available resources such as the 9-8-8 suicide prevention hotline and resources related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Employers will be required to post these materials in a visible location accessible to employees. Additionally, the bill establishes a voluntary framework for employers to implement mental health support strategies, which may include creating online resource portals, adding mental health guidelines to employee handbooks, and developing best practices for supporting employee mental wellness. The bill will take effect 180 days after becoming law, giving employers time to prepare and implement the new requirements.
