This bill amends the Illinois Election Code to provide new guidelines for combining election precincts in counties under township organization. Specifically, an election authority may now combine two contiguous townships into one election precinct if at least two of four specific conditions are met: (1) the townships have been combined in the two preceding general elections, (2) there are no more than 1,800 registered voters in the combined townships, (3) no precinct within either township has more than 500 registered voters, or (4) the majority of township trustees from both townships vote to combine and inform the election authority. The bill requires election authorities to consider voter convenience and election integrity when making such precinct combination decisions. This change provides more flexibility for election authorities in managing election precincts, particularly in rural or less populated areas, while ensuring that voter access and the integrity of the electoral process remain priorities.
