This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to create a new type of special license plate called the Air Medal license plates. The plates would be available for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and certain motor vehicles weighing up to 8,000 pounds. The special plates would feature the Air Medal design, with the remaining design and color details left to the Secretary of State's discretion. The Secretary may also allow these plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates. These special registration plates would follow the standard multi-year expiration procedure established in existing vehicle code. The bill provides a mechanism for military personnel or veterans who have been awarded the Air Medal to obtain a commemorative license plate that recognizes their service and achievement.
