This bill establishes the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Act, which creates a temporary three-day period in early August where sales tax will not be applied to specific educational items in Illinois. During this sales tax holiday (which runs from 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August to 11:59 p.m. on the following Sunday), consumers can purchase eligible merchandise without paying state sales taxes, including clothing items priced at $125 or less, school supplies like notebooks and writing implements, computers and software under $1,000, and backpacks.
