AI Summary

This bill mandates that group or individual health insurance policies and managed care plans in Illinois must provide coverage for one crib and one car seat for each postpartum individual, starting January 1, 2027. To qualify, the postpartum individual must be covered by the insurance policy at the time of childbirth and must submit a claim within 6 months after the birth. Insurers can either reimburse the individual for the purchase of an approved crib and car seat upon submission of a valid receipt, or directly provide a car seat and crib that complies with all federal and state safety standards. The bill amends multiple existing laws, including the State Employees Group Insurance Act, Counties Code, Illinois Municipal Code, School Code, Health Maintenance Organization Act, Limited Health Service Organization Act, Voluntary Health Services Plans Act, and Illinois Public Aid Code, to ensure this coverage requirement is implemented across different types of health insurance and government-provided health plans. By expanding access to essential baby items, the bill aims to support new parents by reducing the financial burden of purchasing critical infant safety equipment.
