This bill amends the Illinois Personnel Code to expand veterans' medical leave provisions and update certain administrative details. Specifically, the bill modifies provisions related to veterans' medical appointments by broadening the scope of medical care that veterans who are state employees can receive. Instead of being limited to visiting veterans hospitals or clinics, employees who are veterans will now be permitted 4 days per year to receive medical care authorized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at any type of health care provider or facility. The bill also expands the purpose of these medical days from just examination to include both examination and treatment of a military service-connected condition. Additionally, the bill updates administrative references, changing the range of sections covered under Jurisdiction B from Sections 8b.1 through 8b.17 to Sections 8b.1 through 8b.20. These changes aim to provide more flexibility for veteran state employees in accessing medical care while maintaining the existing benefit of these 4 days not being charged against the employee's sick leave.
