This bill establishes a federal education deregulation cooperation task force in Tennessee to prepare for potential changes in federal K-12 education laws and regulations. The task force will consist of seven members, including legislative representatives from the House and Senate, and one licensed educator appointed by the governor. The task force's primary responsibilities include identifying all federal funding allocated to the state's Department of Education and Local Education Agencies (LEAs), documenting the sources and uses of these funds, analyzing the federal requirements for receiving such funding, and assessing the state and local employment positions supported by these funds. By December 31, 2025, the task force must submit a comprehensive report to legislative leadership detailing their findings and recommendations for how Tennessee should proceed if significant federal-level changes occur in K-12 education. The task force will automatically dissolve after submitting its report, though the speakers of the Senate and House of Representatives may jointly choose to extend its work. Members of the general assembly will serve without compensation except for standard mileage and per diem allowances, and non-legislative members will receive travel expense reimbursements. The bill takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
