This resolution mourns the death of Ronald Gayle Bittle, Ph.D., a distinguished public servant and mental health professional who passed away on November 28, 2024. Born in Anna, Illinois in 1937, Dr. Bittle was a Navy veteran, accomplished academic, and mental health administrator who made significant contributions to behavioral research and therapy. Throughout his career, he worked at Anna State Hospital (now Choate Mental Health/Developmental Center), where he led groundbreaking studies in behavior modification that influenced mental health approaches nationally and internationally. He served in leadership roles including family director of Anna State Hospital and deputy director for Illinois Mental Health Services, and remained civically engaged by serving on local school and housing authority boards. The resolution highlights his lifelong commitment to community service, his professional achievements, and his role as a loving family man, survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy, his son Bradley, two grandchildren, and several siblings. The Illinois Senate formally expresses its condolences to his family and acknowledges Dr. Bittle's meaningful contributions to mental health care and public service.
