Bill Summary

As enacted, adds that geographic descriptions affecting part of the boundary line between Fayette County and Shelby County are to be construed as the boundary line when census descriptions, counties, voting districts (VTDs), tracts, blocks, census delineations, census district lines, and other census designations are those established for or by the United States department of commerce, bureau of the census, for taking the 2020 federal decennial census in this state as contained in the topologically integrated geographic encoding and referencing system for the composition of state congressional districts, state senatorial districts, and state house of representative districts. - Amends TCA Title 2, Chapter 16 and Title 3, Chapter 1.

AI Summary

This bill clarifies that when describing the boundary line between Fayette County and Shelby County for the purpose of drawing legislative districts (such as for the State Senate and State House of Representatives), any geographic descriptions used must be interpreted as the official boundary line established by Tennessee Code Annotated Section 5-2-118. This ensures consistency and avoids confusion by prioritizing the established legal boundary over potentially conflicting descriptions that might arise from census data or other geographic designations used in redistricting.
