Under this bill, the substitution request must be made either before the GAL files an official appearance or during the first court appearance after the GAL's appointment, whichever occurs later. This change provides parties in guardianship proceedings with more flexibility in selecting a representative who they believe will most effectively advocate for the respondent's interests, while maintaining the court's ability to ensure proper representation and protection of the individual's rights.
