This bill amends the Flag Display Act to prohibit State institutions, including public school buildings, from displaying any flags other than the national flag of the United States or the flag of the State of Illinois. Specifically, the bill removes previous language that allowed county boards to display MIA (Missing in Action) flags at courthouses. The legislation requires that only U.S. and Illinois state flags can be displayed at state-run facilities. Previously, county boards were required to provide a United States national flag at least four by eight feet in size to be flown at the courthouse, with the sheriff responsible for raising the flag from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on legal holidays and other days as directed by the county board. This new provision significantly restricts flag display options for state institutions, limiting them to only two flags: the national and state flags.
