This bill requires the Illinois Board of Higher Education to develop a comprehensive career and education guide specifically designed for postsecondary students with disabilities, created in collaboration with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Department of Employment Security. The guide will provide detailed information to help undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities navigate their academic and professional journeys, including identifying resources available at higher education institutions such as disability career centers, work-based learning opportunities, and specific accommodations. The guide will also offer career planning guidance on important topics like disability disclosure to employers, negotiating workplace accommodations, understanding workers' rights, and learning about assistive technologies. Additionally, the bill mandates that the guide include a list of national and regional organizations focused on supporting job seekers with disabilities. The guide must be publicly available on the websites of the three involved departments, with the first edition to be published by August 1, 2026, and updated annually thereafter. The Board is permitted to publish physical copies and charge a reasonable fee for printed versions.
