This bill requires certain Maryland counties with at least 150,000 residents to report detailed quarterly housing development permit information to the Department of Planning beginning January 1, 2027. The reporting will include specifics such as permit numbers, approval dates, site addresses, housing types, total residential units authorized, construction costs, and other relevant details. Municipalities will have the option to voluntarily submit similar quarterly reports. The Department of Planning will be required to publish this permit information on a public, interactive, and searchable website, organizing the data by housing type (such as single-family homes, townhouses, apartments, duplexes, triplexes, and quadplexes) and showing the total built and existing housing supply for each county. Local jurisdictions must also make these reports publicly available on their websites or through alternative methods if they do not have a website. Additionally, the Department of Planning must submit an annual report on this building permit information to the Governor and General Assembly. The bill aims to increase transparency and provide comprehensive data on housing development across Maryland, with an effective date of July 1, 2025.
