This bill establishes a Task Force on the Establishment of a State Park Dedicated to Veterans' Care, comprising members from the Maryland Senate, House of Delegates, state agencies, Washington County government, and relevant stakeholders. The Task Force will study the feasibility and costs of creating a state park specifically designed to provide recreational opportunities and therapeutic services for veterans. Key responsibilities include developing recommendations for park services, amenities, operational models, funding strategies for both initial infrastructure and ongoing maintenance, and creating an action plan for park establishment. The Task Force will include representatives from various state agencies like the Department of Natural Resources and Veterans and Military Families, as well as a county commissioner, local officials, and a representative from an organization providing veterans' therapeutic services. Members will not receive compensation but can be reimbursed for expenses. The Task Force is required to submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and specific legislative committees by December 1, 2026. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, and remain in effect for two years before automatically being abrogated on June 30, 2027.
