This bill establishes the Tennessee Task Force to End Childhood Hunger, a 14-member group comprising state agency commissioners, legislators, and nonprofit representatives, aimed at developing a comprehensive strategic plan to address childhood hunger in Tennessee. The task force will focus on improving nutrition accessibility and affordability, optimizing public resources like TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), building partnerships between government and nonprofits, streamlining coordination across state departments, and addressing challenges with electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards. Members will serve without compensation and meet electronically at least quarterly, with the commissioner of human services serving as chair. By July 1, 2026, the task force must submit a detailed report to the General Assembly, including findings about childhood hunger needs, a strategic action plan with an executive summary, and legislative recommendations. The task force will automatically dissolve after completing and submitting its report, with the goal of developing policy recommendations to help children become self-sufficient, healthy, and productive citizens. The bill takes effect immediately for appointment purposes and fully implements on July 1, 2025.
