This bill amends the Public Officer Prohibited Activities Act to expand the types of positions that a county board member can hold simultaneously during their term of office. Specifically, the bill adds a new provision allowing county board members to serve as members of an intergovernmental joint self-insurance pool board, which is a collaborative arrangement where multiple government entities pool their resources to provide insurance coverage. Previously, county board members were limited in the additional offices they could hold, with exceptions for roles like chairman of the county board, regional planning commission member, alderperson in small towns, and several other specific positions. The bill maintains the existing requirement that any additional office holding must not create a conflict of interest or be expressly prohibited by law. By adding this new provision, the bill provides county board members with an additional opportunity to serve their community in an extra governmental capacity, while still maintaining restrictions to prevent potential conflicts of interest. The bill becomes effective immediately upon enactment.
