This bill amends the Illinois Insurance Code to expand the definition of individuals "at risk for ovarian cancer" and broaden the types of surveillance tests covered for ovarian cancer screening. Specifically, the bill adds a third criteria to the definition of "at risk for ovarian cancer": having a high level of CA-125, which is a blood test marker that can indicate potential ovarian cancer. The bill also updates the definition of "surveillance tests for ovarian cancer" to include a more comprehensive range of medical imaging and diagnostic techniques, such as ultrasounds, MRIs, x-rays, CT scans, and CA-125 blood test screenings, replacing the previous more limited definition that only specified annual screenings using CA-125 testing, transvaginal ultrasound, and pelvic examination. The changes will apply to group health insurance policies amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after January 1, 2024, and are designed to provide more comprehensive and flexible screening options for individuals at risk of ovarian cancer. The bill is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
