This bill amends Tennessee traffic law to enhance safety for farm tractors and agricultural equipment on roadways by requiring drivers to exercise additional caution when approaching slow-moving or stationary farm vehicles. Specifically, when a farm tractor or implement of husbandry is in an adjacent lane or on the shoulder and displays a slow-moving vehicle indicator, drivers must reduce their speed while maintaining a safe rate for road conditions and, if possible, change lanes with careful regard for safety and traffic. The bill defines "slow-moving vehicle indicator" as including flashing hazard lights, two red or fluorescent orange flags at least 18 inches square, or a reflective orange triangular slow-moving vehicle sign. This legislation aims to protect agricultural workers and equipment operators by creating a legal requirement for other drivers to slow down and provide additional space when encountering farm vehicles on roads. The law will take effect on July 1, 2025, giving drivers and farmers time to become familiar with the new requirements.
