Starting January 1, 2026, health insurers must cover medically necessary expenses including specific bariatric surgeries (such as biliopancreatic bypass, laparoscopic gastric banding, Roux-en-Y procedure, and sleeve gastrectomy), revision surgeries, and comprehensive pre- and post-operative care. This care includes psychological screening, behavior modification counseling, nutritional counseling, and exercise therapy.
