This bill directs the New York State Bridge Authority to submit a comprehensive report by July 1, 2027, to the Governor, Speaker of the Assembly, and Temporary President of the Senate detailing their initiatives and progress in reducing and preventing suicide attempts on bridges managed by the authority. The report must include information on recommendations from the Comprehensive Plan for Suicide Prevention, Education, and Awareness, the implementation status of these recommendations on each bridge, timelines for projects like climb deterrent fencing, any obstacles encountered in implementing recommendations such as capital needs or structural issues, alternative or additional measures considered, other suicide prevention efforts undertaken, policy recommendations for the legislature, and any other relevant information. This legislation will take effect immediately and expire two years after becoming law.
