This resolution commends Coach Ricky Knight for his extraordinary 40-year career at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBW), where he served as head coach for men's and women's basketball teams. After an international playing career in countries like Spain, Brazil, Australia, and Argentina, Knight joined LBW in 1985 and achieved significant athletic success, including leading the women's basketball team to two state championships and multiple national tournament appearances. Throughout his tenure, he earned numerous coaching awards such as the NJCAA Region 22 Coach of the Year and Birmingham Tip-Off Club Junior College Coach of the Year. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Knight is recognized for developing LBW's athletic program into a highly respected institution and mentoring student-athletes who succeeded both in basketball and in their personal and professional lives. The resolution highlights his dedication, integrity, and leadership, which have created a lasting legacy at LBW, and officially congratulates him on his retirement, which will be celebrated on February 17, 2025, at the final home basketball game of the season, wishing him health and happiness in his future endeavors.
