This bill amends the Illinois Public Aid Code to expand access to family planning services for individuals regardless of their immigration status. Specifically, the bill requires the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to provide the same medical coverage for family planning and related services to lawful permanent residents and people of all immigration statuses as is currently provided to U.S. citizens. To be eligible, these individuals must meet all other existing qualifications under the HFS Family Planning Program, which is part of Illinois' Family Planning State Plan approved by federal Medicare and Medicaid authorities. Importantly, the bill prohibits the Department from imposing mandatory waiting periods for lawful permanent residents and individuals of other immigration statuses who are otherwise qualified to receive these services. This provision aims to ensure equitable access to reproductive healthcare services for all residents of Illinois, regardless of their citizenship or immigration background.
