This bill requires the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to develop and maintain a public website tool by January 1, 2026, that provides detailed information about toxic release inventory (TRI) facilities. The TRI is a program established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that tracks the management of certain toxic chemicals that may pose a threat to human health and the environment. The proposed informational tool will allow users to input an address and receive a list of facilities within a five-mile radius that are required to submit toxic release reports, as well as information about any pending applications for new facility construction or expansion in that area. Users can also request notifications about new facility applications near a specified address. The tool must be updated within ten business days of receiving new information, using data from the EPA's toxic release inventory. The primary goal of this bill is to increase public transparency and awareness about potentially hazardous industrial facilities in local communities, giving residents easy access to information about chemical-related industrial activities near their homes.
