This bill amends the School Code to allow students in 7th or 8th grade to enroll in high school-level required courses under specific conditions. The bill permits middle school students to take high school courses if the course is offered by the high school they would typically attend, with three potential scenarios: (1) the student takes the course at the high school location without preventing high school students from enrolling, (2) the student takes the course at their current school and passes both the course and the high school's end-of-course examination demonstrating high school-level proficiency, or (3) the course is taught by a licensed educator endorsed for the specific grade level and content area. If a student successfully completes such a course, the school board must grant academic credit that satisfies high school course requirements. Additionally, if a student transfers to a new school district, that district must award high school course credit for previously completed courses, unless there is evidence that the course does not meet appropriate learning standards. The student's grade for these courses will also be included in their grade point average according to school board policies.
