This bill amends the Illinois TRUST Act to expand protections against federal immigration enforcement by adding schools and school employees to existing provisions that limit cooperation with immigration agents. The bill defines "school" as including public elementary and secondary schools, community colleges, public colleges, and state universities. It prohibits law enforcement agencies, officials, schools, and school employees from detaining individuals solely based on immigration status, participating in immigration enforcement operations, providing access to individuals in custody, transferring people to immigration agents, sharing databases or information, or facilitating immigration agent inquiries. The bill requires both law enforcement agencies and schools to submit annual reports to the Attorney General detailing any immigration-related requests or detainers received, without including personally identifying information. The Attorney General is granted investigative and enforcement powers, including the ability to conduct investigations, issue subpoenas, examine witnesses, and seek court-ordered compliance or injunctive relief for violations of the Act. The overall goal is to limit local and educational institutional cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts and protect individuals from potential immigration-related detention or harassment.
