AI Summary

This bill amends the Nurse Practice Act to modify regulations surrounding advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), particularly those certified as nurse midwives. The bill allows certified nurse midwives with full practice authority to enter into written collaborative agreements with other advanced practice registered nurses, and specifies that nurse midwives seeking full practice authority must complete 250 hours of continuing education and 4,000 hours of clinical experience, with their clinical experience specifically being in collaboration with a certified nurse midwife who has full practice authority. The legislation expands the flexibility of nurse midwives' practice by allowing them more autonomy in collaborative agreements, prescriptive authority, and clinical practice settings. Key terms like "full practice authority" are defined as the ability to practice without a written collaborative agreement, be fully accountable for patient care, recognize professional limits, and possess authority to prescribe medications, including controlled substances. The bill aims to streamline and modernize the regulatory framework for advanced practice nurses, particularly those specializing in midwifery, by providing clearer guidelines for collaborative practices and professional development.
